The 15th China (Wenzhou) International Garden Expo opens April 15th, featuring mountain-and-lake landscapes, city gardens, and global collaboration with IFLA.
The 15th China (Wenzhou) International Garden Expo will open on April 15th, marking the first time the event is held in Zhejiang Province. This expo is one of China’s most important events in landscaping and urban green development, bringing together new ideas and practices in city planning.
Landscape and Exhibition Layout
The expo site sits at the foot of Xianmen Mountain and surrounds Xianhu Lake, creating a natural mountain-and-lake setting. Covering roughly 2.3 million square meters, the park is divided into north and south sections. It includes one Chinese classical garden, 34 city gardens, and six themed exhibition areas, showcasing techniques and styles from five major landscape traditions worldwide.
Domestic and International Participation
City gardens form a key part of the exhibition. The Zhejiang section features gardens from all 11 prefecture-level cities in the province. In addition, 12 other Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing, have built their own gardens. The international section presents gardens from 11 partner cities in France, the United Kingdom, and Italy, offering a cross-cultural perspective on landscape design.
The International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA), a leading global organisation in landscape architecture, has established its first themed exhibition garden in China. It will also set up a permanent International Cooperation and Exchange Centre at the site to support long-term international collaboration.
Events and Public Access
A 30-day trial operation began on February 14th, attracting over 1.6 million visits, with peak daily attendance of 126,000. Organisers have completed major construction and exhibition setup ahead of the official opening.
During the expo, Wenzhou will host more than 600 events and introduce travel routes connecting the main venue with popular scenic spots. Six featured routes will centre on the main site, while 13 themed cultural tourism routes link sub-venues across the city.
After the expo ends, the site will continue to operate as a public urban park. Founded in 1997, the China International Garden Expo serves as a platform to showcase new ideas, technologies, and achievements in urban development and green space design from China and around the world.
