Britain wins historic mixed team skeleton gold at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics as Matt Weston secures his second gold medal in Milano Cortina.
Britain secured a historic victory in the mixed team skeleton event as the 2026 Winter Olympics continued on February 15th.
Just two days after winning the men’s singles title, Matt Weston returned to the track with another milestone in sight. This time, he teamed up with Stoecker in the newly introduced Olympic event.
Under the competition format, each team fields one female and one male athlete. Each competitor completes one run, and officials add the two times together to decide the final standings.
Stoecker delivered a composed run of 1:00.77, keeping Britain in contention. However, the team still trailed the leaders heading into the final run.
Then came Weston. The Olympic champion handled the pressure with confidence. He produced a blistering 58.59 seconds to overturn the deficit. The pair finished with a combined time of 1:59.36 and secured the first Olympic gold in the event’s history.
Meanwhile, Germany’s Axel Jungk and Susanne Kreher took silver in 1:59.53. Their teammates Christopher Grotheer and Jaqueline Pfeifer claimed bronze, just 0.01 seconds behind.
The victory marked another breakthrough for Team GB. Weston became the first Briton to win two gold medals at a single Winter Olympics. In addition, Britain claimed three gold medals at one Games for the first time.
China’s Zhao Dan and Chen Wenhao finished fifth in 1:59.93. Liang Yuxin and Lin Qinwei placed eighth with a time of 2:00.66.
