Hong Kong Population Increased to 7.51 Million by End of 2025

Hong Kong’s population reached 7.51 million by the end of 2025, with net migration offsetting natural decline.

The Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department released provisional figures on February 12th, showing the city’s population reached 7.5108 million at the end of 2025. This is a slight increase of 10,200 people, or 0.1%, compared with the end of 2024, HKCNA reported.

Of the total population, 7.2424 million were usual residents, while 268,400 were non-permanent residents. Between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025, Hong Kong recorded a net inflow of 29,100 residents, meaning more people moved in than left. At the same time, the population saw a natural decrease of 18,900, as 31,100 births were lower than 50,000 deaths.

A Hong Kong government spokesperson said the modest population increase was supported by measures to attract talent and foreign workers. These policies drew people from around the world, helping offset the natural population decline. Overall, while natural change reduced the population, migration played a key role in maintaining growth at the end of 2025.
