Britain’s Matt Weston set multiple track records to claim gold in the men’s skeleton at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Britain’s Matt Weston delivered a commanding performance in the men’s singles skeleton at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on February 13th. He secured gold with a total time of 3:43.33.
Weston broke the Cortina track record in the opening two runs. He then lowered it again in the third and fourth, clocking 55.63 seconds and 55.61 seconds respectively to seal victory.
Skeleton, often dubbed the “ice F1,” demands explosive starts and precise steering. Athletes can exceed speeds of 120 km/h. Weston showed exceptional control throughout, adapting quickly to the Cortina Sliding Centre.
After crossing the finish line, he held his helmet in both hands and bent low over the track. He later knelt down, visibly overwhelmed with emotion.
China’s Chen Wenhao finished fourth with a total time of 3:44.59.
