The It Begins With YUN pop-up is bringing together independent brands including Pulu° tea for a limited time only.
The summer pop-up was created to give smaller or independent brands a physical space. Letting them be seen, touched, tasted, tried, and remembered.
Held in conjunction with the Yunnanese restaurant Yun, the exhibition is held at 22 Torrington Place in Fitzrovia, where their new restaurant will open later this year.
Among the many brands were Yunnanese tea by Pulu°, RuaRua Panda’s adorable little pandas, clothing from Zhong Studio, and much, much more. From independent fashion and accessories to lifestyle objects and tea, there is a range of unique items on offer.
Speaking to China Minutes, Jinghong Zhao, co-founder of Pulu°, explained why they joined the pop-up.
“The pop is hosted at a space run by our friends from Yunnan, the same province where we are from. When they said they were launching this event, they asked if we wanted to join, and we obviously said yes! For us, it’s about cultural exposition and representation.”
So far, it has been a positive experience. At a packed opening event, several of the Pulu° co-founders were present. There, they got to introduce the brand to new and old friends, try out special cocktails prepared by the YUN team, listen to a speech by the pop up curator Jie Zhang, and hear a performance by musician Justin Peng.
In the days following in, they’ve connected well with visitors. “The space is located next to SOAS and UCL, we’ve had a lot of professors and academics. Some of them are interested in the tea, some are interested in the culture. It’s a pretty effective audience; they channel the two sides of the product that we want to deliver. We get to talk about the tea, the product, but also the cultural background that we’re trying to share. We’ve had a really good experience.”
As part of the pop-up, their various tea products and accessories will be on sale. They will be hosting tea workshops until the end of July. They are one-hour sessions where you get to connect with the tea and the culture.
Looking to the future, she said: “We’re hosting workshops at the pop-up until the end of July. We’re also going to collaborate with other spaces in the future. It won’t just be limited to one space.”
Jinghong Zhao believes Pulu° has a lot going for it. “We want to allow people access to high-quality single-origin tea more easily… and we want them to experience the tea in a different way.”
