China’s Spring Job Market Sees Strong Growth in High-Tech Hiring

Discover which roles earn the most in China’s 2026 job market. Tech jobs lead, with strong demand in AI, robotics, and new energy sectors.

In spring, the job market becomes active. Across China, labour authorities and HR agencies release spring recruitment data. These figures show a clear trend. In Q1 2026, hiring demand rises in emerging sectors. These include advanced materials, next-generation IT, and new energy vehicles.

New Industries Boost Hiring

Demand for R&D and technical roles grows fast. According to CCTV, many tech-driven sectors expand quickly. For example, jobs in robotics and new materials have risen by over 30% year on year. Therefore, they show the strongest growth. Meanwhile, optoelectronics and AI roles grow by nearly 20%. In addition, aerospace and shipbuilding jobs increase by about 20%. Furthermore, roles in new energy vehicle components rise by over 10%.

Next, salaries also climb. Robotics, new materials, and optoelectronics lead the pack. Their average monthly pay exceeds 10,000 yuan (about £1,100). Moreover, AI engineers earn about 20,804 yuan (about £2,290) per month. After that, chip engineers, mobile developers, and software engineers follow. They earn roughly 17,790 yuan (about £1,960), 16,624 yuan (about £1,830), and 15,816 yuan (about £1,740).

By comparison, these salaries are competitive. The Chinese National Bureau of Statistics reported lower averages. In 2024, urban non-private sector workers earned 124,110 yuan (about £13,650) per year. Meanwhile, private sector workers earned 69,476 yuan (about £7,640).

Then, cities show a clear pattern. On the one hand, top cities hold a high share of these jobs. Beijing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai reach 7.4%, 4.8%, and 4.6%. On the other hand, growth is faster elsewhere. Wuhan, Suzhou, and Nanjing grow by 28.3%, 24.8%, and 20.5%.

What Talent Do These Firms Prefer?

First, they favour candidates with strong STEM backgrounds. In cutting-edge fields, they also prefer graduates from top universities. Second, certain majors stand out. These include computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, and electronic information engineering. As a result, these subjects match industry needs well.

Overall, demand varies by sector. However, several fields remain central. These include computing, machinery, electrical, electronics, and automation. Therefore, they form the core knowledge base for talent in emerging industries.
