Crafts on Peel, the Hong Kong foundation dedicated to Chinese craft, will present a new exhibition of works at the London Craft Week in May.
The exhibition is titled Creative Cross-Pollination: The Future of Crafts. All works in the interactive and tactile exhibition are designed to be touched and experienced.
It will be on view at the Royal Society of Sculptors on Old Brompton Road in South Kensington from 11th to 17th May 2026.
For the exhibition, Crafts on Peel fostered five creative dialogues between Greater China’s most skilled traditional craftsmen with five contemporary artisans and innovators. Each piece in the exhibition emerged from this months-long cross-disciplinary collaborations between Greater China’s most accomplished Masters and a new generation of artisans. The works presented are either a co-creation or the artisans’ tribute to their masters.
The outcome is a body of works that spans different disciplines, all rooted in symbols and motifs emblematic of Chinese culture and history. Ancestral craft traditions including gold gilding, filigree, bamboo craft, galvanised ironwork and Guangzhou embroidery have all been re-imagined.
The pairings of Master and contemporary artisans include Master Wang Xinyuan (one of China’s first Great Nation Intangible Cultural Heritage Artisans) and Elaine Yan Ling Ng (contemporary textile designer and Fabrick Lab founder).
Yama Chan, Founder of Crafts on Peel, says: “At Crafts on Peel, we cultivate a space where mastery is forged through exchanges. We have actively sought out collaborations that challenge our artisans. The resulting works – from the reimagined scholar’s rocks to the kinetic metal installation – are powerful new narratives that transcend regional, generation and cultural borders.”
Adding, “My hope is that you see more than just the finished objects – that the shared passion, the intellectual curiosity, and the ambitious spirit of the artisans are palpable within each piece. This “creative cross-pollination” is our promise to the next generation: craft is an exciting path with limitless possibilities.”
Crafts on Peel is a charitable foundation in Hong Kong to revive, reinterpret and perpetuate traditional craftsmanship by fostering collaborations between traditional craftsmen and contemporary artisans through apprenticeship and exchange of techniques, with the aim of nurturing the younger generations to incorporate traditional skills into innovative contemporary design. Their multi-purpose creative venue in Hong Kong is located in a historic building in the heart of the city. It promotes the appreciation of craftsmanship and celebrating our shared cultural heritages through exhibitions, workshops and its Artisan-in-Residence programme.
This exhibition is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London.
