The Chinese Academy of Engineering Journal has revealed its choices for the engineering achievements that have most impacted the world over the past five years, including many Chinese projects.
The 10 engineering achievements are as follows: Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs), Blackwell GPU Architecture, DeepSeek Open-Source Large Language Model, Full-Ocean-Depth Manned Submersible, High-Performance Carbon Fibre Composites, Humanoid Robot, Mars Rover Perseverance, Euclid Space Telescope, South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project, and the Taklamakan Desert Edge-Locking Project.
The projects were selected by the Chinese Academy of Engineering Journal “Engineering”, with all of them meant to have significant impacts on people’s work and lives.
Several of them, such as DeepSeek, the Taklimakan Desert Edge-locking Project, are outcomes during the 14th Five-Year Plan period of China.
The “2025 Global Top 10 Engineering Achievements” was released a few days before China launched its next Five-Year Plan. In the next five years, for China, the issue placed at the top of the agenda will still be scientific and technological innovation.
Other great engineering achievements include the Antibody-Drug Conjugates (ADCs), which have expanded the treatment boundary of malignant tumours. It opens up a new path for humanity to conquer the fortress of cancer and other diseases. The High-Performance Carbon Fibre Composites are widely used in aerospace and other fields, leading the transformation of the new material industry.
China’s South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project has effectively promoted the ecological restoration of rivers and lakes along the route, allowing for their sustainable development.
China’s Contributions to Global Technology
China’s scientific research achievements have provided crucial support for the development of global science and technology.
During China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, China’s economy contributed an average of about 30% annually to global economic growth. And this became the most important driving force for world economic development. In 2025, China’s Innovation Index ranked among the top 10 globally for the first time.
China’s scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation with countries around the world are also deepening. Increasingly, international study tour institutions are organising student visits and exchanges in China. They have visited enterprises such as iFLYTEK, BYD, DJI, and Huawei to experience China’s latest achievements in artificial intelligence and new energy.
The power of innovation will drive China and the world forward. In the next five years, China will continue to step up efforts in scientific and technological innovation.
