China Fashion Week Showcases Tradition and Innovation

Discover highlights from China Fashion Week 2025 in Beijing, where designers blend heritage, embroidery, and sustainable fashion with modern creativity.

The Autumn edition of China Fashion Week brought together heritage, creativity, and modern design on the runway. From ancient embroidery to sustainable fabrics, designers presented collections that merged tradition with fresh ideas.

Heritage on the Runway

On September 8, Yi embroidery from Chuxiong, Yunnan, made a striking appearance. With over 1,800 years of history, this national intangible cultural heritage is known for its bold colours, intricate stitches, and rich symbolism. Other highlights included Lujin weaving and the classic horse-face skirt, both reinterpreted for today’s fashion.

Designers and Their Inspirations

On September 9, designer Feng Sansan introduced a collection themed “Three Generates All Things (三生万物).” She combined earthy silk fabrics with natural herbs and revived old embroidered pieces through modern techniques. Designer Wang Tingting presented “Abundant Harvest of All Food Crops (五谷丰登),” inspired by China’s farming culture, with golden tones and grain motifs symbolising harvest and renewal. That same day, Zou You and Ma Jingsi brought youthful energy to the runway, with Ma showcasing her independent label MAGGIEMA.

Tradition Meets Modern Creativity

Other shows, including RILLKEM by Ren Keming and SAINT.JOY by Huizhong Bian, added to the diversity of styles. Overall, this season celebrated the meeting of past and present. Traditional skills such as embroidery and weaving found new life in contemporary design, while young designers explored themes of sustainability, culture, and innovation.
