The Original Chinatown: Myths and Realities
This exhibition explores the intriguing world of London’s first Chinatown, which was originally located in Limehouse. It is organised by Care ofr St Anne’s. a charity dedicated to looking after St Anne’s church in Limehouse where this exhibition is held.

The rise and characteristics of China’s leadership in global environmental governance
While there have been high expectations for China to lead global environmental action, China’s efforts remain understudied. To address this knowledge gap, Dr Yixian Sun and his team at the University of Bath developed the ‘China’s Global Environmental Leadership (CGEL) database’ and systematically assessed 293 China-led international environmental governance initiatives. Dr Yixian Sun joins us to present the findings of their analysis

The United States, China, and the Weaponization of Trade
The event will centre on Dr Cha’s most recent book, China’s Weaponization of Trade: Resistance through Collective Resilience (Columbia, 2026), co-authored with E. Kim and A. Lim. The discussion will examine the strategic use of economic coercion by major powers, the implications for allies and partners, and the kinds of collective resilience that may be needed to protect governments, firms, and the wider international order.

In-/Visible Spectrums: Contemporary Video Art from the Sinosphere
Also at SOAS, on April 16th a new exhibition will open showcasing contemporary video art from the Sinoshphere. It showcases contemporary video artworks by eleven artists: Huang Yuhui 黄宇辉, Li Nu 李怒, Liang Yue 梁玥, Liu Guoqiang 刘国强, Ma Haijiao 马海蛟, Ma Qiusha 马秋莎, Siu Wai Hang 萧伟恒, Tong Wenmin 童文敏, Xin Yunpeng 辛云鹏, Yi Lian易连 and Zheng Xinhao 郑新皓.

Jung Chang Book Talk
At the Ealing Book Festival, Jung Chang will be speaking about her book Fly, Wild Swans, which is a follow-up to her well-known work Wild Swans published three decades ago. This talk will be held at the University of West London, where Jung Chang once studied alongside a group of students from communist China shortly after the Cultural Revolution.
