Enjoy the sights of Chinese New Year in London through photos from the celebrations on Sunday 22nd February.
Central London was even more busy then usual during the Chinese New Year celebrations taking place through Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, and Chinatown. The celebrations marking the Year of the Horse began with a parade from Trafalgar Square to Chinatown followed by a series of performances and speeches at the main stage in Trafalgar Square. Throughout the day, there was also Lion Dance performances in Chinatown and various stalls offering workshops or selling Chinese New Year related items. The City of London fire station by Chinatown was even opened to the public. Excited children sat in a fire engine and people were able to learn more about the work they do.
Before the event, His Majesty King Charles III sent his “warmest best wishes” for “a most successful event,” and Prime Minister Keir Starmer thanked the British Chinese community for their valuable contribution to the country in a special message to the event and wished everyone “a very prosperous and happy Lunar New Year.”
The Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatown are organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association, with the support of the Mayor of London, the Greater London Authority and the City of Westminster.
