The top three universities in the ranking of Times Higher Education’s Most International Universities are all in Hong Kong.
The Times Higher Education (THE) released the “Most International University in the World” ranking for 2026 on March 18th. City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) secured the top spot for the third consecutive year. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) ranked second and third, respectively.
Based on the 2026 World University Rankings, THE evaluated 2,191 universities worldwide, among which 217 institutions met the international evaluation criteria, covering universities from 42 countries and regions.
CityUHK performed excellently in multiple indicators, including the proportion of international students and faculty, co-authorship with international scholars, and international reputation. Thus, it retained the top position as the world’s most international university for three consecutive years.
Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer at THE, said that world-class universities are always international. These institutions attract talent from all over the world. They enable people to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and strive to address the most pressing global challenges.
CityUHK boasts a diverse academic community, with students from around 100 nationalities and staff from over 40 countries and regions. The Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine program is seeing record numbers of international students, including those from Germany, Italy, South Africa, Jordan, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, and mainland China.
