The 38th Golden Rooster Awards, part of the 2025 China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival, opened in Xiamen on November 11th, marking the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema. The opening ceremony featured a massive flying screen displaying 120 specially designed posters of classic Chinese films, illustrating China’s rich cinematic history and creativity, according to CNS.

Over five days, the festival hosts more than 50 events, including the awards ceremony, film forum, showcase, film school, and Strait Film Night. These events offer movie fans and industry professionals a chance to explore Chinese cinema, celebrate its heritage, and discover emerging talent.

A Platform for Culture and Creativity

The festival also launched the Golden Rooster Film Market, where 177 cultural and film projects were signed, totalling £350 million. Projects span film, arts, tourism, and music, including collaborations with Taiwan. Among them, the animation project The Huo Bao Dang An draws inspiration from the “Third Prince,” a figure from traditional Chinese folk beliefs. Its creators hope to introduce Chinese culture to global audiences through engaging storytelling.

Pedro Barbadillo, head of Spain’s Slate Film Fund, said the festival connects creators and audiences worldwide. It strengthens cultural ties and creates new opportunities for filmmakers.

In addition, throughout the festival, participants attend promotional events, roundtables, and workshops. Industry professionals discuss topics such as the development of Chinese cinema, the integration of technology, and creative IP projects. The festival not only showcases films but also fosters collaboration, cultural exchange, and new ideas in the global film community.
