Shanghai International Circuit is ready for an action-packed weekend as the world’s first F1 sprint race under the new rules kicks off. Tickets sold out months ago, and around 230,000 fans are expected, including many from overseas.
On March 13th, British driver George Russell set the fastest lap in the only practice session, keeping Mercedes ahead of the competition. Teams fine-tuned their cars in the paddock, while fans enjoyed the growing racing atmosphere in the city, from trackside to giant racing-themed displays.
Chinese drivers are also in the spotlight. Zhou Guanyu returns home, aiming for a full-time F1 seat, while Shi Wei competes in the F1 Academy race. Shi, the first Chinese female F4 champion, will race in her “Flying Horse” livery, showcasing a new dimension of Chinese speed to the world.
