Managing Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China Highlights China-UK Collaboration on Cross-Border Data Flows at ZGC Forum.
On March 27th, at the Data Cross-Border Flow Innovation and Development Forum held during the ZGC Forum in Beijing, Graeme Wallace, Managing Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in China, shared insights on China-UK economic and trade cooperation in the realm of cross-border data flows.

Wallace emphasized that unimpeded data flow is crucial for facilitating trade, optimizing supply chains, and driving innovation-led growth in both China and the UK. He also commended the forum organizers for their efforts in guiding businesses on ensuring legal and regulatory compliance within China’s evolving governance framework.
Looking ahead to 2025, cross-border data flows will play an even more significant role in business operations. Wallace suggested that future initiatives should expand pilot programs, enhance consultation mechanisms, and simplify compliance processes to establish a regulatory framework that balances security with economic vitality.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the British Chamber of Commerce in China’s commitment to facilitating dialogue between businesses and regulators, helping British companies expand in China, one of the world’s fastest-growing markets.
Chinese officials have previously stated that China is prepared to deepen exchanges and cooperation on cross-border data flows under the framework of the Global Cross-Border Data Flow Cooperation Initiative proposed by China.
Established in 2007 with “Innovation and Development” as its core theme, the ZGC Forum has successfully hosted 15 sessions, featuring thousands of parallel forums and supporting activities, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants.
