Why Swiss Rolls Make Chinese Husbands Restless

why do “dividing Swiss rolls” became a difficult question?

“How to divide eight Swiss rolls?” Recently, husbands all over China have been asked this question, and related entries have even topped Weibo’s trending list. What’s the story behind this?

It all started with a video of a stay-at-home mom whose husband scolded her for eating two Swiss rolls, sparking a wave of reactions online. In the original video, the mom described how someone divided a box of eight Swiss rolls: her daughter ate two, her son ate two, and her husband ate two. After the kids went to bed, she decided to eat the left two Swiss rolls. Little did she expect that eating the leftovers would lead to her husband’s “lecture”: she shouldn’t be eating them.

Why? The husband argued that Swiss rolls are just snacks. As parents and role models, they should focus on meals over snacks. He also gave a more bizarre reason: if the mom eats the Swiss rolls, there would be none left for the kids.

The story ignited a heated debate among Chinese netizens, with many condemning what the husband said. What’s wrong with a mom eating a couple of Swiss rolls?

This is the comment.
Many netizens have posted comments expressing their dissatisfaction with the husband in the video.

As discussions continued, the topic of “dividing Swiss rolls” became a playful point of contention. Many women began asking their boyfriends or husbands: how they would divide eight Swiss rolls.

Some husbands, wise to the mantra of “happy wife, happy life,” responded cleverly. One said, “If they are delicious, you should eat all eight. If they are not, after you take one bite, I will eat the rest.” One husband generously gave 1,000 yuan to his wife and confidently said, “If money can solve this problem, then it’s no problem at all.”

Meanwhile, another husband remarked, “I will eat as many as Weibo suggests.” In addition, there was a saying, “When the children fall asleep, you and I will eat four of them each.” Ultimately, these clever husbands effectively resolved family disputes through their witty and clever answers.
