London’s Mid-Autumn Festival to Feature a Fresh Hip Hop Performance from Returning Dancer

With the London Mid-Autumn Festival fast approaching, excitement is building for one of the most important events jointly supported by the Mayor of London’s office and London’s Chinatown. This year, among the anticipated highlights is the return of dance artist Xusheng Yue, a familiar face to festival audiences.

Last year, Xusheng performed traditional Chinese dance at the Mid-Autumn Festival and took on the role of host at the Chinese New Year celebrations. As a regular participant in Chinatown’s major cultural events, he has become well known for his professional stage presence and versatility.

In an interview ahead of this year’s festival, Xusheng revealed that his upcoming performance will take a very different direction. Instead of the traditional Chinese dance he performed in 2024, he will present a high-energy Hip Hop piece, choreographed to one of the most popular tracks in today’s music scene. “I wanted to try something fresh this year,” he said. “Hip Hop has a different kind of energy—it’s direct, powerful, and connects with people instantly. I’m excited to share this side of my dance with the audience.”

The switch to a contemporary style has been welcomed by the festival’s organisers, who believe it will bring a new dimension to the event. With tens of thousands of spectators expected to attend, the performance promises to deliver a dynamic mix of rhythm, movement, and stage charisma.

As the day approaches, Xusheng is in intensive rehearsals, perfecting each move to ensure the choreography captures the vibrancy and excitement of the music. “For me, dance is about connecting with people,” he explained. “If I can get the audience to feel the beat and enjoy the moment, then it’s a success.”

Festival-goers can look forward to seeing Xusheng Yue light up the stage once again, but this time with a bold and modern twist, when the London Mid-Autumn Festival arrives in Chinatown.
