Little Hunan: traditional Hunanese food in Kingston-upon-Thames

Little Hunan is a family run Chinese resturant in Surbiton, part of the Royal Borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. They specialise in food from Hunan province. A landlocked province in central China, it is well known for the giant statue of Chairman Mao found in the provinces capital  Changsha and how spicy the food is.

Food from Hunan is known for its near-ubiquitous use of chilli peppers. Their foord has a distincitve taste known as dry and spicy (干辣, gānlà). Hunan’s renowned spicyness is certainly found at Little Hunnan. Looking through the menu, it seems like more then half of the options have one, two, or even three chilli peppers!

If you’re looking to try Hunan food, this is the place. From spicy rabbit and frogs legs to Chairman Mao’s red-braised pork belly, they have it all.
