The Chinese Tea Company

Dragon Well Tea at The Chinese Tea Company

Tucked away just off Portobello Road is The Chinese Tea Company, bringing a little bit of China to London. As you step into the store, the moody lighting, intimacy and strong aromas hit your senses, transporting you into a small, but authentic tea shop.

In store you can purchase a variety of exquisite teaware. There are also over 60 different loose teas on offer, including some very rare and sought-after. Juyan is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about tea. It runs in her blood as she has worked with tea since she was a child, picking and selling tea in the markets of Zhejiang, China.

I was a complete novice when I visited their store, however I was in safe hands with Juyan, who introduced me to the delicate Dragon Well tea during a tea tasting session, which can be booked privately or as group session. I was amazed at how much goes into making the perfect cup of Chinese tea, from knowing how long to brew, how to taste and the different optimal temperatures.

In addition to the tea house, they also offer a unique experience to join them on a 12-day tea tour in and around China on a yearly basis.

Whether you are brand new to Chinese tea or already hooked, you will be sure to find something to suit your taste buds at The Chinese Tea Company.
