McDonald’s opens its first restaurant in Qinghai, completing coverage across all Chinese provinces.
After opening three stores in Ningxia on Dec. 20th, McDonald’s launched its first restaurant in Qinghai on Dec. 21st. Located in Xining, this is the largest standalone drive-thru in Northwest China, according to CNS.
With this opening, McDonald’s now has restaurants in every provincial-level region of China. The expansion shows the brand’s continued commitment to reaching new markets across the country.
“We are excited to bring McDonald’s to Qinghai,” said Zhang Jiayin, CEO of McDonald’s China. “We plan to open more classic-format restaurants here and are confident in our growth in this region.”
As of Nov. 2025, McDonald’s operates over 7,500 restaurants in mainland China, employs more than 200,000 people, and served over 1.3 billion customers in 2024.
The Xining store combines modern design with local cultural touches, offering a unique dining experience. Its drive-thru caters to busy customers and reflects the region’s growing appetite for quick, convenient dining options.
This opening marks a milestone for McDonald’s in China and highlights its strategy to adapt to local tastes while maintaining global standards.
