Legendary Demon Hunter Zhong Kui Joins Black Myth Series

Black Myth: Zhong Kui, sequel to Black Myth: Wukong, has been unveiled by Game Science, inspired by the legendary Chinese demon hunter.

On 20th August 2025, during the opening night of Gamescom in Cologne, Game Science celebrated the first anniversary of its hit game Black Myth: Wukong. The team also revealed the first teaser trailer for the next game, Black Myth: Zhong Kui.

The new game is a single-player action RPG inspired by Zhong Kui, a legendary demon hunter in Chinese folklore. They are China’s equivalent of a Van Helsing-style hero. It is still in early development, so no gameplay footage is available yet.

Game Science explained that the story of Wukong has reached a natural pause. The team wanted to explore fresh gameplay, a new world, and different storytelling techniques. “Journey to the West is far from over,” the developers said.

Developer Insights and Future Plans

Feng Ji, the founder of Game Science and the producer of Black Myth: Wukong, shared on social media: “Black Myth: Zhong Kui will bring a new hero, new gameplay, a new visual style, and technical breakthroughs. I love the world of demons, gods, and heroes in Journey to the West. Wukong’s story will return in a more complete form when the time is right.”

Yang Qi, art director of Black Myth: Wukong, added, “We have explored Journey to the West themes for over a decade. Perhaps it is time for a new creative direction. Wukong’s story isn’t finished. We are waiting for the right moment and more collaborators.”

The official social media accounts will now be unified under the name “Black Myth” to share series updates. Game Science has also registered trademarks for Black Myth: Xiaoqian and Black Myth: Jiang Ziya, hinting at future games based on Chinese mythology.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui aims to expand the series universe while introducing players to a new hero and story world. Fans can follow updates on the official website and social media channels.
