People want to travel during the week-long National Day holiday

The National Day holiday is coming, and China is planning to travel.

China will supply more cultural activities and tourism products around the week-long National Day holiday starting on Oct. 1, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MCT) announced on 24th of Sep.

MCT held a press conference. It said the move aims to meet people’s growing demand for cultural and tourism products during the upcoming holiday.

Nearly 1,000 cultural activities themed on intangible cultural heritage are expected to be held nationwide, said Hu Yan, an MCT official.

Tourist attractions will also showcase the glamour of intangible cultural heritage. For example, Hu added that Xiaoxitian Temple in Shanxi Province, northern China, will exhibit some projects related to intangible cultural heritage. Shanxi province has become a popular destination for travel due to China’s first triple A game Black Myth Wukong. Many of the game’s locations were based on actual sites in Shanxi province.

More routes featuring rural and ecological tourism will also be accessible to the public, according to the ministry.

What’s more, advanced sales have begun for all 10 films set for release around the holiday. Traditionally it is one of the most lucrative moviegoing periods. The upcoming golden week brings hope of fueling faster box office growth for the industry.

This is especially important as the summer box office from June to August was lower than expected. It has decreased from 20.6 billion yuan (2.92 billion US dollars) last summer to 11.6 billion yuan this summer. Chinese comedy movie Successor was the biggest movie at this years summer box office.

According to film data platforms Maoyan and Beacon, the most anticipated titles for this year’s National Day holiday include Lu Chuan’s sci-fi film “Bureau 749,” crime action flick “High Forces” starring Andy Lau, Chen Kaige’s war movie sequel “The Volunteers: To the War 2,” crime drama “Tiger Wolf Rabbit” starring Xiao Yang, and “Give You A Candy,” a disaster feature from Liu Jiangjiang, the director of the 2022 hit “Lighting up the Stars.”

In addition to focusing on tourism content, Chinese tourists have also begun to pay attention to travel methods. Many new energy car owners are preparing for self-driving trips. In response, cities across the country are increasing their efforts to ensure the smooth operation of these vehicles.

Liaocheng City, Shandong Province has implemented an intelligent vehicle networking platform that provides online and offline inspection, problem handling, on-site charging services, and more for charging facilities. This aims to improve the efficiency of charging facilities, ensuring their safe and stable operation.

To promote green travel for rural residents, 3,224 public charging piles have been installed in Liaocheng, an increase of 1,558 compared to the end of 2023, with a growth rate of 93.51 percent, according to State Grid Liaocheng Power Supply Co.

The power operator has strengthened its efforts to guide residents in saving costs and using electricity in a more reasonable way through telephone guidance, offline visits, public education, and other instructional services.
