Ambassador Zheng Zeguang Makes Clear China’s Position on the UK’s Ban of TikTok on Government Devices

On 28 March, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang made the following statement on the UK’s ban of TikTok on government devices in an interview with Chinese and foreign media during his visit to Belfast:

We firmly oppose the UK’s act of making up excuses to suppress a Chinese company. The Chinese government protects data and information security in accordance with the law. The chief executive of the relevant company has made it clear that the company is committed to the protection of user data security. Such political manipulation of the UK side will only hurt others and itself, including making a very popular social media platform unavailable to society, especially the young people. We urge the UK side to respect facts, stop overstretching and abusing the idea of national security, and stop wantonly suppressing Chinese companies.
