World's oldest male giant panda in captivity dies at Hong Kong's Ocean Park

An An, the world's oldest male giant panda under human care, has died, the Ocean Park in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region announced Thursday.

The bear began losing its appetite over the past few weeks and stopped eating solid food since July 17, the park said.

Age 35 for a panda is the equivalent of 105 human years.

An An was born in Southwest China's Sichuan Province and arrived in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 1999 along with female companion Jia Jia as a gift from the mainland.

Jia Jia died in October 2016.
