Veteran soldier volunteers join frontline flood control battle in Poyang County, Jiangxi

Veteran soldier volunteers gather at a temporary evacuee shelter in Poyang County, east China's Jiangxi Province, July 18, 2020. When Yuan Pengshuai, a veteran soldier in north China's Shanxi Province, heard of the serious floods in Jiangxi Province, he thought he and his old comrades-in-arms could do something. Yuan organized a volunteer team immediately and the ten team members drove 1,300 kilometers to join the frontline flood control battle in Poyang County. After obtaining permission from local flood control task forces, the veteran soldier volunteers have been working as reinforcements on a river embankment. At a temporary evacuee shelter where they are based, the volunteers also look after the elderly and children while helping with sanitation work in the place.
