Standing in the vast ocean, the world's first 16-megawatt wind turbine, installed off the coast of Fujian province, looks small from a distance, but its capabilities go far beyond the imaginations of many.

The newly installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power in China has exceeded 100 million kilowatts in the first half of 2023, with a cumulative installed capacity of approximately 860 million kilowatts, which generated about 730 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, making wind and photovoltaic power one of China's most competitive industries, an official said on Wednesday.

In 2022, Hebei Province has invested about 100 billion yuan (14.3 billion U.S. dollars) in new energy power generation, which added an installed capacity of more than eight million kilowatts.

China's total installed capacity of renewable energy generation has increased by around 90 times over the past 10 years, cementing its role as a global leader in renewable energy capacity growth.
