China will continue to play a constructive role in ceasing hostilities, easing the crisis and restoring peace between Ukraine and Russia, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Qin Gang said Thursday.
China's decision to contribute 200,000 euros (about $210,000) through the International Atomic Energy Agency to nuclear safety and security assistance for Ukraine is a concrete step to support the IAEA's efforts to strengthen the safety of Ukraine's nuclear facilities, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Saturday that he would visit China in early April, with the Ukraine crisis high on the agenda.
China will put forward a position paper on a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, senior diplomat Wang Yi said, as he urged peace efforts ahead of the first anniversary of the conflict.
Wang criticized some countries emphasizing the principle of sovereignty on the Ukraine issue while challenging China's sovereignty over Taiwan and the one-China principle to the point of deliberately creating tensions in the Taiwan Straits.
