A self-driving vehicle developed by Chinese tech heavyweight Baidu Inc has crossed two bridges over the Yangtze River in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, making the city China's first to carry out commercial autonomous ride-hailing services spanning across the river.

The technology enables continuous performance improvements in cars using the data collected during autonomous driving, unlike the conventional method of training cars as much as possible in various driving scenarios in advance.

A project promoting self-driving vehicles has been implemented in the Binhu National Forest Park of Hefei recently. Self-driving tour bus, unmanned vending vehicle, unmanned sweeper and other vehicles have been put into use to serve tourists.

The expo opened on Monday, with more than 600 enterprises participating in the exhibition online and offline.

Trial operations of Shanghai's first autonomous bus line have begun in the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
