As of the end of October 2022, a total of 110 cities across China achieved the standards of gigabit cities, accounting for about one-third of all prefecture-level cities, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
All core sites in Zhangjiakou, which is co-hosting the Games with Beijing, now have 5G network coverage. Also, a very fast, three-gigabit network is expected to cover the entire Zhangjiakou area.
China will step up its push to expand its 5G network coverage, build a dynamic industrial ecosystem and strengthen international cooperation, so as to quicken the commercialization of the superfast wireless technology, officials and experts said.
The epidemic has boosted China's industrial upgrading and transformation, as well as the development of new products and new industries.
The average speed is now 600 megabits per second (Mbps) and is expected to reach 1,000 Mbps after further optimization.
