Shenzhen launches alliance for industrial Internet

Authorities in the southern city of Shenzhen have brought together China's leading IT companies to form an alliance for the industrial Internet. 

Supported by the city's Industry and Information Technology Bureau and led by the city’s Information Technology Industrial Association, the new alliance includes Huawei, China Unicom, Foxconn, Sangfor Technologies, and Tencent. 

The alliance positions itself as a cross-industry, open, non-profit organization. It aims to promote exchanges and in-depth cooperation to jointly develop industrial Internet technologies, standards and research. 

Yu Xiaohui, vice president of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, said the trend in world industrial development involves a new generation of information technologies and the industrial Internet to meet market demands.

Xu also said hardware interconnections and sharing of software and data will help integrate the market with equipment and resources. 

Wang Lixin, deputy mayor of Shenzhen, said that developing the industrial Internet has been listed as a national strategy, adding that Shenzhen has great development potential because it is already a national manufacturing and software city. 

Foxconn’s largest factory, located in Shenzhen’s Longhua Town, has improved production efficiency by 30 percent thanks to the use of the industrial Internet, and was placed in the Global Lighthouse Network by the World Economic Forum. 

Shenzhen has vowed to launch more measures, including talent training and financial support to create new progress in the development of the industrial Internet.
