Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum reopens to remember history

The Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum reopened on Tuesday after nearly three years of expansion.
The venue now covers about 4,000 square meters, four times its original size.
The exhibition consists of six parts, including about 1,000 exhibits, a dozen restored scenes and 161 stories related to refugees.
It tells the stories of Jews who were desperate to escape Nazi massacres by seeking sanctuary in Shanghai.
The renovated museum enables visitors to learn about this history in an immersive way through image data, historical relics and restored scenes.
"This history records not only the past of the Jewish refugees, but also the experience of the Chinese people and the Jewish refugees helping each other in times of war. It is expected to inform people on how to build a peaceful and beautiful world," said Chen Jian, curator of the museum.
Names on the Wall of Jewish Refugees have increased from 13,732 to 18,578 after identification.
A blank section has been created for more names as they are discovered.
