New tool coming to assess housekeepers

A project for certifying housekeepers in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, was launched on Monday, with more than 200,000 domestic helpers to be added to a database.

A goal of the project, based on a housekeeping service platform managed by the Guangzhou Women's Federation, is to issue 80,000 quality housekeeping service certificates in three years, said Wei Min, deputy director of the Guangzhou Commerce Bureau.

Through the project, housekeepers in the city can be tracked and assessed, Wei said at a news conference in Guangzhou on Monday.

Housekeeping companies should encourage their employees to apply for the quality housekeeping service certificate, which is valid for three years.

Applicants for housekeeping work should present their ID, health certificate and training certificate. Certified housekeepers have received training, including lessons on work ethic, etiquette and legal, safety and health knowledge.

Quality housekeeping certificate holders will be graded according to the level of their service and consumers' feedback. That information will be available online to help prospective customers make the best choice before hiring someone.
