China makes full payment to UN regular budget

China paid the remaining balance of its contributions to the UN regular budget for the year 2020 on Monday, according to a statement by the Permanent Mission of China to the UN.

China's full payment, which amounts to $336 million, demonstrates its staunch support to the UN.

As the second-largest contributor to the UN regular budget, China actively fulfills its financial obligations, supporting the UN and its specialized agencies and upholding multilateralism, the statement said.

Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, expressed great appreciation for China's full payment to the UN regular budget in the daily noon briefing on that day.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the UN, and the international community has high expectations of the organization, the statement wrote.

In fighting COVID-19, all countries need to make solid moves to support the UN and its specialized agencies. The World Health Organization has a critical and central role to play in combating the pandemic. China has decided to donate another $30 million in cash to the WHO in addition to the $20 million cash donation already made to support the global fight against COVID-19 and strengthen developing countries' health system.

The virus knows no borders or races. The Mission said China will continue to work with all parties to contribute to the maintenance of regional and international public health security and a community with a shared future for mankind.
