China Drives Cooperation and Innovation at APEC 2025

China continues to play a key role in the APEC as a reliable partner and a positive force for stable development.

The 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting will kick off on October 31, with all sides expecting the regional cooperation mechanism to inject fresh impetus into global trade and technological collaboration.

The meeting, themed “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” focuses on strengthening connectivity, promoting innovation, and fostering inclusive growth and prosperity.

These priorities are in line with APEC’s core objectives of trade and investment liberalisation, business facilitation, and economic and technical cooperation.

The meeting will focus on two pressing issues: AI transformation and demographic change. The discussions are expected to spotlight collaborative opportunities in AI and digital transformation.

China’s Participation Vital for APEC

China and the forum share much in common. As a key engine of growth in the Asia-Pacific, China has committed to expanding high-level opening-up and deepening regional cooperation.

China has been actively deepening cooperation with fellow APEC member economies in recent years. In the medical field, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is gaining recognition within the region, leading to collaborations in talent cultivation and scientific research.

China continues to play a key role in the APEC as a reliable partner and a positive force for stable development, according to an expert.

Igor Shestakov, director of the Oy Ordo Centre for Expert Initiatives, noted that the Asia-Pacific region faces challenges. “Protectionism is an attempt by some countries to dictate to others and impose their economic conditions on them. China’s position is that the world is multipolar, and there should be no dictatorial approach,” he said.

“Undoubtedly, China’s participation, as one of the world’s leading economies, is vital for the organisation,” Shestakov said.
