Photo Essay: Celebrating Mid Autumn Festival Across China

See how China is celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival across the country in this photo-essay showing everything from traditional lanterns to modern drones.

Held every year on the 15th day of the 8th Month in the lunar calendar, the Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated across much of East and Southeast Asia. In China, it is one of the most important festivals of the year after the Chinese New Year.

Due to being based on the lunar calendar, the date of the Mid-Autumn Festival changes each year. This year, Mid-Autumn Festival landed on Monday, 6th October 2025.

When celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, people in China will often decorate lanterns, give mooncakes, or eat with family or friends. There are also often public shows and displays.
