Many new friends joined the fifth China International Consumer Products Expo, and the UK shines as the guest country of honor with 27 brands coming here.

The fifth China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), held on the tropical island province of Hainan, has reaffirmed the country’s position as a vital marketplace for global enterprises.

This year’s expo was held from Apr 13 to 18. It has drawn record participation. Over 4,100 brands from 71 countries and regions took part. It reflects the growing international desire to engage with China’s huge consumer market and its changing landscape.

A Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Many new friends joined the expo this year, and the UK, Russia, Mongolia and Malaysia are among them. And the UK shines as the guest country of honor at the expo, showcasing top-notch offerings from luxury porcelain to exquisite jewelry.

In addition, with 27 British brands, the UK’s exhibition team is double the size of last year’s, reflecting growing confidence in China’s $6 trillion consumer market. Flagship brands like Burberry and Bentley showcased their latest offerings, with a strong emphasis on green technology and sustainable development.

The theme of the UK Pavilion this year is “Where Heritage Meets Modern Excellence”. It showcases a combination of tradition and innovation. Also, it offers visitors an interactive experience.

Big Collaboration Opportunities

“British craftsmanship, design and quality are among the biggest selling points for consumers around the world. China is the world’s 2nd-largest consumer market. It’s also the UK’s 5th-largest trading partner. So there are big collaboration opportunities in the consumer sector,” the embassy noted.

British companies have significant opportunities in China’s vast consumer market, where their brands and products enjoy strong levels of trust, said Mark Clayton, Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce South China.

Moreover, he noted that China is actively working to shift its economic growth model toward consumption, moving away from a traditional reliance on manufacturing and infrastructure. “There’s a lot of policies they’re implementing here (in China) to try to get people to spend,” said Clayton, a veteran businessman with 20 years of experience working in China.
