Kew Gardens Orchids After Hours in Pictures

The annual Kew Gardens Orchid Festival are hosting a special Orchids After Hours highlighting the diversity of Yunnan.

During the day, visitors to the world-famous Kew botanical gardens are able to see a collection of beautiful orchids in the Princess of Wales Conservatory as part of the annual Orchid Festival. In previous years orchids from countries across the world have been highlighted. This year, China is the star of the show.

Alongside many orchids from China hang red lanterns and Chinese artwork. The most breathtaking display is a great dragon created out of lotus seed heads, orchid plants, and dried leaves.

In the evening, for the Orchids After Hours event Yunnan takes centre stage. Visitors can explore the orchids and China-related displays under atmospheric lights. They also have the opportunity to try wood block printing in a workshop by Yi Crafts and see a fantastic fashion show highlighting outfits from different ethnic minorities of Yunnan province.

There is also live music from Yijia or mui zyu and talks from Kew Garden scientists.
