Workers at a lantern factory in southwest China are busy making red lanterns as demand rises ahead of the Chinese New Year.
As the Chinese New Year approaches, demand for red lanterns is rising across China.
At Hongfa Lantern Factory in Jintang County, Chengdu, workers are busy making lanterns to meet seasonal orders. Inside the workshop, production runs at full speed. The factory supplies lanterns to homes across western China, where they hang at doorways for the holiday. Many are also shipped overseas to Southeast Asian countries.
Founded more than a decade ago, the factory has grown into a local speciality industry. It now operates in a workshop of over 4,000 square meters and produces more than one million lanterns each year. The business is led by Chen Junlong, a young factory owner born after 2000, who represents a new generation continuing a traditional craft.
