Shanghai Disney Resort Expansion: Spider-Man Attraction and New Hotels

Shanghai Disney Resort is expanding with a new Spider-Man-themed attraction, two additional themed hotels and other projects as it approaches its 10th anniversary.

As Shanghai Disney Resort prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the destination has unveiled a new round of expansion plans, including a Spider-Man-themed coaster attraction and two additional themed hotels.

Speaking at the resort’s 10th anniversary celebration on June 15th, Andrew Bolstein, president and general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort, announced that construction is underway on the resort’s ninth themed area. The expansion will feature a major Spider-Man-themed coaster attraction. He also confirmed plans for the resort’s third and fourth themed hotels.

Since opening on June 16th, 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort has continued to add new experiences for visitors. Toy Story Land opened in 2018, while the world’s first and only Zootopia-themed land debuted in 2023. Both additions have proven popular and contributed to the resort’s continued growth.

The Spider-Man-themed expansion recently reached an important milestone. According to Bolstein, crews completed installation of the final section of the attraction’s signature red track several weeks ago, marking further progress in construction.

Meanwhile, the resort is expanding its hotel portfolio to accommodate growing demand. Building on the popularity of its two existing themed hotels, Shanghai Disney Resort has announced plans for two more properties.

The third hotel, named Disney Enchanted Star Hotel, will be located next to the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel. The fourth hotel will stand just steps from the park’s main entrance, offering visitors additional accommodation options.

Several other major projects are also moving forward across the resort. Among them is an expansion of the popular Soaring Over the Horizon attraction, one of the park’s signature experiences.

In addition, Shanghai Disney Resort has introduced a range of new entertainment offerings this year. Since March, guests have enjoyed the Heart of Magic show, an upgraded Mickey’s Storybook Express parade, and a refreshed Illuminate! A Nighttime Celebration spectacular featuring a special finale created for the resort’s 10th anniversary.
