Bytedance Launches Chinese AI Video Creator Seedance 2.0

Seedance 2.0 is the new Chinese AI video creator released by Bytedance, impressing the world with its video generation capabilities.

Bytedance, parent company of TikTok, suddenly launched its new AI video creator Seedance 2.0 this week.

The model is still in beta and currently available to users of Jimeng AI, ByteDance’s AI video platform.

Those who have used it have been shocked by the quality of videos produced, offering more lifelike videos and better visual consistency compared to other AI video creators.

Short videos shared on social media platforms such as X, formerly Twitter, have gone viral with claims that they have “movie-like” quality. Praising Seedance 2.0 as being better than western equivalents such as Sora 2 by OpenAI, who are also responsible for ChatGPT.

In China, the release of Seedance 2.0 has been described as another DeepSeek moment.  The release of the DeepSeek chatbot drew significant attention to the capabilities of Chinese AI companies. Deepseek has been able to produce an AI chatbot equivalent to Western models such as ChatGPT at supposedly a fraction of the cost.

Chinese technology news site Kr36 reviewed Seedance 2.0, pointing out several improvements over other systems, but also some issues that remain. They were impressed by the sound added to the videos, and the way characters created did not suddenly change throughout the video, as is often a problem with other AI video generators.

While many have been impressed by the quality, it is not perfect. Kr36 pointed out that subtitles would often come out garbled.

Despite imperfections, Seedance 2.0 is a noticeable improvement in AI video creation, and following last year’s DeepSeek moment has highlighted Chinese AI capabilities again.
