China and GTI launch a global 6G Open Testbed to boost collaboration and speed up next-gen mobile tech development.
On July 10, 2025, China and the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI) jointly launched the 6G Open Testbed at the GTI International Forum. More than 30 partners from industry, universities, and research institutes have already joined the platform.
The 6G Open Testbed is a new global platform for testing next-generation mobile network technologies. It brings together companies, researchers, and engineers to work on 6G in an open and collaborative manner. The goal is to accelerate scientific research, inform the development of international standards, and foster the growth of a global 6G ecosystem.
The testbed includes three key parts:
Simulation Platform – Used to model and test 6G technologies in different scenarios. It supports large-scale computing and flexible setups to explore how 6G might work in the real world.
Prototype System – A working model that combines communication, sensing, computing, AI, and security. It supports testing of important 6G technologies like intelligent networks and ultra-fast wireless connections.
Field Testing Environment – Allows real-world testing of advanced 6G applications, such as smart robots and immersive communication experiences.
With this open platform, China and GTI hope to bring global partners together to shape the future of mobile technology—faster, smarter, and more connected than ever before.
