China will hold a military parade in Tian’anmen Square, Beijing, on Sept. 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
The military parade will feature marching formations, armored columns and aerial echelons, showcasing both traditional main battle forces and new-domain forces with new combat capabilities, said Wu Zeke, a senior officer of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission.
All equipment to be on display is domestically produced and currently in service, he said.
In addition to the latest generation of conventional weapons, the parade will display new-type combat capabilities, such as unmanned intelligent systems, underwater combat units, cyber and electronic forces, and hypersonic weapons. The parade will demonstrate the Chinese military’s strong ability to adapt to technological trends and evolving warfare, and to prevail in future wars, Wu added.
What’s more, China will hold a gathering around Oct. 25 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan’s recovery from Japanese occupation. Overseas Chinese will also be supported in organizing relevant commemorative events.
The gathering is part of a series of events to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory, said Hu Heping, executive vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, at a press conference.
Highlight Hong Kong’s Contributions
On June 23, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government Chan Kwok-ki said that the HKSAR government will launch a series of events to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Chan said that the commemorative activities should be guided by the core spirit of “remembering history, honoring martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating a great future”, so that members of the public can thoroughly understand the history of the War of Resistance and work together to cherish and safeguard peace.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s contributions to the victory in the War of Resistance should be highlighted, along with in-depth research into historical materials about Hong Kong’s wartime history as well as proper restoration and protection of war-related sites, Chan said.
