Home Village English Edition by Chinese Author Wang Yuewen Debuts in London

 Home Village English edition by Chinese Author Wang Yuewen debuted in London on March 15th. 

Home Village is a sincere homage by renowned Chinese author Wang Yuewen to his roots. The 540,000 words book depicts the resilience and transformation of a small Hunan village over 26 years. Ranging from the Great Revolution to the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The novel vividly portrays the social structures, rural ethics, agrarian life, and folk customs of the time.

The English edition of “Home Village” was translated by Yuan Haiwang and published by UK-based ACA Publishing Ltd. Imprint brand Sinoist.

The book was launched by the UK branch of the Chinese Literature Readers’ Club. The event received strong support from People’s Literature Publishing House and China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation. The launch attracted numerous literature enthusiasts, sinologists, and media representatives.

At the launch event, Wang Yuewen and translator Yuan Haiwang made a joint appearance, sharing insights into the creative and translation processes. Yuan Haiwang, sponsored by China National Publications Import & Export (Group) Corporation, flew in from the United States to present fascinating stories about the translation.

Attendees had the opportunity to obtain signed copies from both Wang Yuewen and Yuan Haiwang.

Since its establishment in 2021, the UK branch of the Chinese Literature Readers’ Club has been dedicated to promoting Chinese literature. They have posted both in-person and online events. The club has successfully invited renowned Chinese authors such as Liu Zhenyun, Liang Hong, and Heng Sao Tianya to engage with British readers. Online dialogues have also featured prominent writers like Jia Pingwa, Su Tong, and Li Juan, alongside British sinologists and translators.

During the event, Chax Publishing announced two significant future initiatives. First, the publication of a deluxe collection of Mao Dun Literature Prize-winning works under the “Grid Edition” series, aiming to systematically showcase Chinese literary classics to the world. Secondly, the launch of a new brand called SinoKid  focusing on children’s literature. The brand is currently undergoing design and registration processes and is expected to officially debut in the near future.

Wang Ying, head of the UK branch of the Chinese Literature Readers’ Club, stated: “Chinese literature remains severely underappreciated globally. However, with China’s ongoing economic development and increasing international influence, the global dissemination of Chinese culture is poised for new opportunities.” She called on more readers and literature enthusiasts to join the cause and collectively promote Chinese literature on the world stage.

The successful launch of the English edition of Home Village further enhances the global influence of Chinese literature, marking another successful effort to introduce outstanding Chinese authors and works to English-speaking audiences. It not only provides British readers with an opportunity to delve deeper into Chinese literature but also injects new vitality into the international promotion of Chinese literary works. Moving forward, the UK branch of the Chinese Literature Readers’ Club will continue to host more exciting events, building bridges for literary exchange between China and the world. The release of the English edition of Home Village.
