Numerous food and agricultural products made their debut at the 7th CIIE.
The China International Import Expo(CIIE) is a must-visit event for foodies, as it showcases diversed food from all over the world.
French wine, Malaysian Musang King durian, South African avocado, Madagascar grass-fed mutton… The Food and Agricultural Products exhibition of this CIIE covers an area of 89,000 square meters, and more than 1,500 companies from 100 countries and regions participated in the exhibition.
Each country’s pavilion reflects its rich agricultural heritage. Greece, for instance, shines with its world-famous olive oil and premium wines, emblematic of its deep-rooted culinary traditions and Mediterranean climate. The Greek booth is a visual and aromatic delight, featuring the golden tones of extra virgin olive oil and the bold reds of Greece’s wines.
Cities like Glasgow, Scotland, and countries like Canada also bring the taste of their identity to the event. For example, Glasgow brought its traditional smoked fish and fine whiskeys.
Enterprises from New Zealand are active participants. During the expo, a host introduced a number of goodies, including fresh milk powder, honey, and wine from the country, through a live-streaming activity. Consumers could also taste the unique flavor of New Zealand’s food through on-site sampling.
“The South African avocado has a rich and creamy taste, with some butter or nutty flavors,” anchors from China’s e-commerce platform Tmall said when introducing the South African delicacy to consumers.
This is the first time South African avocados arrived in China, and the crop is a star product of this year’s fair. Within 10 minutes, the live streaming studio completed nearly 1,000 orders. In other words, Chinese consumers can already taste the African flavor before the CIIE closed.
According to data released at a news conference held by the CIIE Bureau on Nov. 10th, tentative deals worth $80 billion were achieved during the six-day exhibition, a year-on-year increase of 2 percent.
